Abrasive Wheel Instructor

The aim of this Abrasive Wheels Instructor course is to provide delegates with the knowledge & skills to deliver an Abrasive Wheels Training course.

 The programme will enable learners to deliver training which can be specifically tailored to the local conditions of users with abrasive wheel equipment. It will ensure competency in the preparation of Abrasive Wheel Risk Assessment.

Our 2-day Abrasive Wheel Instruction course will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to effectively design and deliver abrasive wheel training in the workplace as an Instructor. Participants are trained in instructional skills techniques as well as the theoretical aspects of the core subject.

This is an intensive and highly interactive course which will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to effectively design and deliver abrasive wheel training in the workplace and to become an abrasive wheel instructor.

Entry Requirements
  • To ensure the greatest opportunity for successful participation in our programmes, learners are required to have a good command of English in terms of reading, writing and speaking. This standard of proficiency is indicated by achieving or exceeding the standard of CEFR B2+Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) or standard of 6.0 on the IELTS.
  • Learners who have achieved a passing grade at Junior Certificate level will be deemed to meet this criterion. However, learners for whom English is not their first language, are required to advise Carraig Safety Consultants, and may be required to provide evidence of proficiency. This could include completing a standardised CEFR test or equivalent.
  • Participants will need to have successfully completed an ‘Abrasive Wheel Setters’ course or be able to demonstrate competency, knowledge and understanding which will adequately support training as an instructor.
  • An ability to instruct others is essential and ideally participant will have completed a primary Instructor Course i.e. Manual Handling QQI Level 6 Instructor etc.

  • Identifying the hazards working with abrasive wheels
  • Selecting the correct wheel for the job
  • Inspection & testing of abrasive wheels
  • Guarding of grinding and cutting operations
  • Dressing and truing of abrasive wheels
  • Functions of components, flanges, blotters etc
  • Differences between grinding and cutting operations
  • Designing a training session
  • Using training aids
  • Evaluating learning and providing feedback
  • All participants will gain practical experience delivering training

Assessment:

Participants are required to complete an assignment The course will test both the delegates theoretical and practical knowledge of the syllabus..

 

Certification:

All delegates who successfully complete the course in full will be awarded a Certificate of Training from Carraig Safety

Do I need to have a valid Abrasive Wheel certificate to do the course and become an instructor?

You have to be able to demonstrate competency, knowledge and understanding which will adequately support training as an instructor and having completed the Operative Level Course will demonstrate that.

Can I train my own staff after this course?

Yes, once you satisfy all the requirement of the course, you can train and certify your team.

Can I become a free lance trainer or set up a training business and deliver Abrasive Wheel Training.
