Manual Handling Instructor QQI Level 6 - 6N0233

The aim of this award is to enable learners to effectively design and deliver Manual Handling Instruction for the workplace. The programme will enable learners to deliver training which can be specifically tailored to the local Manual Handling conditions. It will ensure competency in the preparation of Manual Handling Risk Assessments.

Our 5-day QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instruction course will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to effectively design and deliver manual handling training in the workplace as a Manual Handling Instructor. Participants are trained in instructional skills techniques as well as the theoretical and practical aspects of manual handling.

Our programme is developed with digital skills at the forefront of teaching practice, with this is in mind the following is required:

  • You must have access to a laptop/computer with a webcam and mic.
  • Your laptop/tablet must have Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word or similar software installed as you'll need to create and deliver a presentation as part of your final assessment of day 5.

You will also require these applications to complete a risk assessment and lesson plan as part of the course program

This is an intensive and highly interactive course which will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to effectively design and deliver manual handling training in the workplace and to become a manual handling instructor.

Entry Requirments

Entry Criteria:

English Proficiency:

  • To ensure the greatest opportunity for successful participation in our programmes, learners are required to have a good command of English in terms of reading, writing and speaking. This standard of proficiency is indicated by achieving or exceeding the standard of CEFR B2+Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) or standard of 6.0 on the IELTS.
  • Learners who have achieved a passing grade at Junior Certificate level will be deemed to meet this criterion. However, learners for whom English is not their first language, are required to advise Carraig Safety Consultants, and may be required to provide evidence of proficiency. This could include completing a standardised CEFR test or equivalent.

IT skills & Resources:

Learners should have basic IT Skills. They will need to be able email, word process (Word) and use Presentation software (Powerpoint) and Zoom.

  • Learners must have good broadband access and their own laptop/ tablet with microphone and speakers and a working camera.
  • The course should be completed in a quite location. This can be tested prior to the course commencement.

General:

  • There is currently no specific requirement for participants to have completed a previous programme of training at a similar or lower level on the NFQ.
  • Participants will require a reasonable level of physical fitness so that practical elements of the programme, including assessment elements, can be undertaken successfully.

Assessment:

Participants are required to complete an assignment, examination and make skills demonstration as indicated below. All assessments are carried out in accordance with QQI regulations and are internally verified and externally authenticated before certification is issued.

All participants have the right to appeal their result and all appeals will be dealt with in accordance with our appeals procedure.

All participants who successfully complete the written examinations and practical assignments will be awarded with a QQI level 6 Special Purpose Manual Handling Instruction certificate and the appropriate credits under the national framework of qualifications will then be obtained by the learner.

Participants will be given clear guidelines on how the assignment should be completed. The skills demonstration element will be completed and assessed during the course.

What do I need to bring?

We supply all course materials, manuals, packs and refreshments, however on day 5 the learner should bring their laptop to present their micro teach and a load to conduct their demonstration.
